What is Self-Love?

  • Transition to defining self-love using the My Superpower: Self-Love! Slide Deck (Slide 3-4).
    * Facilitate a brief discussion: What does it mean to love yourself? Why is it important? What are some ways we show ourselves love?
    * Emphasize that self-love is about appreciating who you are, accepting your flaws, and treating yourself with kindness.

Activity: Mirror, Mirror

  • Introduce the Activity: Mirror, Mirror (Slide 5-6).
    * Explain the activity: Students will look at themselves in a mirror (or visualize themselves) and say positive affirmations. Provide examples like 'I am kind,' 'I am smart,' 'I am a good friend.'
    * Give students 5-7 minutes to practice. Circulate and offer encouragement. Remind them it's about being kind to themselves.
    * Reconvene and ask students to share one positive affirmation they said to themselves (optional, for those comfortable sharing).

  • Distribute sticky notes for the Cool-Down: Self-Love Sticky Notes (Slide 7-8).
    * Instruct students to write one thing they love about themselves or one positive affirmation on a sticky note.

    * Summarize the lesson, reiterating the importance of self-love and reminding students that they are all amazing.

Think about all the amazing things that make you special! ✨

Introduce the Warm-Up activity. Explain that everyone has unique and wonderful qualities. Give them a moment to think about what makes them special before starting the written activity.

What is Self-Love?

Self-love means appreciating and accepting yourself for who you are, strengths and all!

It's about being kind to YOU.

Define self-love. Explain that it's not about being selfish, but about treating yourself with kindness, just like you'd treat a good friend. Ask for student examples of kindness to friends.

Why is Self-Love Important?

Elaborate on why self-love is important. Connect it to feeling happy, confident, and strong inside. Ask students how being kind to themselves might help them.

Look at yourself and say something wonderful about YOU!

Introduce the 'Mirror, Mirror' activity. Explain that positive self-talk is a huge part of self-love. Model a few positive affirmations for students.

Transition to the Cool-Down. Explain that they'll be writing down one last positive thought about themselves to take away from the lesson.

It's time to look at the amazing person in the mirror (or imagine yourself clearly in your mind!).

Say these positive affirmations to yourself, or create your own. Remember to be kind and encouraging, just like you would to a best friend!

Instructions:

  1. Hold up your mirror (or close your eyes and visualize yourself).
  2. Look into your eyes and say positive things about yourself.
  3. You can use some of these ideas, or make up your own!

Examples of Positive Self-Talk:

  • "I am creative."
