Truth Shields

Honesty is like a shield that protects us.

Welcome, friends! Today we’re going to learn how honesty works like a shield that protects us and others. By the end of our time together, you’ll know why choosing truth keeps everyone safe.

Warm-Up Question

What happens when someone tells a lie?
How does it make us feel?

Gather everyone in a circle. Ask: “What happens when someone tells a lie? How does it make us feel?” Pause for answers. Guide children toward ideas like feeling unsafe or sad when someone isn’t honest.

Story Time

Meet Sam!
• Sam found a lost puppy.
• At first, Sam thought, “Maybe no one will know.”
• Then Sam used honesty like a shield and told the truth.
• Telling the truth helped Sam and the puppy stay safe.

Display each of the Truth Shields Story Cards as you tell the story. Say: “This is Sam. Sam found a lost puppy and thought, ‘Maybe no one will know if I keep it.’ But then Sam remembered that honesty is like a shield, so Sam told the truth and helped find the puppy’s home. Sam stayed safe and felt proud!”

Drawing Activity

Draw one thing you want to protect with your “truth shield.”

Hand out one Shield Drawing Template and crayons to each student. Say: “Draw one thing you want to protect with your truth shield—maybe your family, friends, or pets! Use any colors you like.” Walk around, encourage creativity, and offer praise.

Reflection & Goodbye

Who will share one truth they promise to tell?

Great job! Truth keeps everyone safe.

Invite two or three volunteers to hold up their shields and share the truth they promise to tell. Praise each promise: “Great job! Remember, truth is like a shield that keeps everyone safe.” End with a cheerful goodbye.
