Strength Superpower Unveiling

Students will be able to identify at least three of their personal strengths and understand how these strengths contribute to their self-concept and group dynamics.

Step 1

Introduction: What's a Superpower?

5 minutes

  • Begin with an engaging question: "If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?" (2 minutes)
  • Introduce the idea that we all have 'inner superpowers' – our strengths! (1 minute)
  • Explain that today, we'll be uncovering our own unique strengths. (2 minutes)
  • Present the My Inner Hero Slide Deck slides 1-3.

Exploring Strengths

10 minutes

  • Use the My Inner Hero Slide Deck slides 4-7 to define strengths and provide examples.
  • Facilitate a brief class discussion about different types of strengths (e.g., kindness, creativity, problem-solving). (5 minutes)
  • Ask students to think about what they are good at or what makes them feel proud. (5 minutes)

Step 3

Strength Shield Creation Activity

20 minutes

  • Distribute the Strength Shield Creation Activity worksheet. (2 minutes)
  • Explain the instructions: students will draw or write about their top three superpowers/strengths on their shield. (3 minutes)
  • Circulate and offer support and encouragement as students work on their shields. (15 minutes)

Step 4

Sharing Our Superpowers

8 minutes

  • Facilitate a Sharing Our Superpowers Discussion where students can voluntarily share one of their strengths and explain why they chose it. (7 minutes)
  • Encourage positive affirmations and active listening from classmates. (1 minute)

  • Briefly recap the importance of recognizing and celebrating our strengths.
  • Emphasize that everyone has unique superpowers that contribute to the class community.

What Are Strengths?

Strengths are things you are good at, things you enjoy, or positive qualities you have! They are your personal superpowers.

Define what a strength is in simple terms, relating it to things students are good at or enjoy.

Examples of Super Strengths!

  • Kindness: Always helping others.
  • Creativity: Coming up with new ideas.
  • Problem-Solving: Finding solutions to challenges.
  • Bravery: Trying new things, even if they're scary.
  • Listening: Being a great friend who hears others.
  • Curiosity: Asking lots of questions and wanting to learn.

Provide clear examples to help students understand different types of strengths.

Strength Shield Creation

Every superhero needs a shield to represent their power! Today, you get to design your own Strength Shield, showing off your amazing inner superpowers!

Instructions:

  1. In the large space below, design your unique shield. You can draw a shape, add patterns, and make it look super!
  2. Think about your top 3 inner superpowers or strengths. What are you really good at? What positive qualities do you have?
    • Examples: kindness, creativity, helping others, problem-solving, being a good friend, listening, bravery, curiosity, making people laugh, being organized, working hard.
  3. On your shield, write or draw symbols for each of your 3 chosen superpowers. Make sure they are clear so you can share them with your classmates!
  4. Be ready to share one of your superpowers and why you chose it!

Sharing Our Superpowers: Class Discussion

Now that you've thought about your inner superpowers and created your Strength Shields, it's time to share them with our amazing class community!

Discussion Guidelines:

  • When it's your turn, please stand next to your desk and hold up your Strength Shield.
  • Choose ONE of the superpowers you put on your shield.
  • Tell us what that superpower is and briefly explain why you chose it. Give an example if you can!
  • Listen respectfully when your classmates are sharing. Give them a thumbs up to show you're listening!

Prompt Questions:

  1. "My superpower is [Strength], and I chose it because..."


  2. Optional follow-up: "How does this superpower help you at school, at home, or with your friends?"


  3. For the class after a student shares: "What's something awesome you noticed about [Student's Name]'s superpower?" (Encourage positive feedback, focusing on how their strength contributes to the group).
