Shining Bright with Self-Respect!

Welcome students and introduce the theme of the lesson: recognizing what makes each of them special.

What Makes YOU Shine?

• What is something you are really good at?
• What makes you special?
• What do you like about yourself?

Engage students with a question to activate prior knowledge and get them thinking about their positive qualities. Encourage a few shares.

What is Self-Respect?

Self-respect means liking and valuing yourself!
It's about knowing you are special and important.
It's treating yourself with kindness, just like you would a good friend.

Introduce the term "self-respect" and break it down into simple, kid-friendly language. Emphasize that it's about treating yourself well.

Why is Self-Respect Important?

• When you respect yourself, you feel happy and strong inside!
• You know you are smart, kind, and capable.
• It helps you believe in yourself and try new things.

Explain why self-respect is important using relatable examples. Connect it to feeling happy and confident.

How Do We Show Self-Respect?

• Taking care of your body (eating healthy, playing)
• Learning new things and trying your best
• Being proud of your ideas and feelings
• Saying nice things to yourself
• Standing up for yourself in a kind way

Give concrete examples of how 1st graders can show self-respect every day. Encourage students to think of their own examples.

You're a Star!

Every single one of you is a bright, amazing star!
What makes your star shine?
Let's show it!

Transition to the activity. Explain that everyone is a star and will create their own 'star' to show what they like about themselves.

Keep Shining Bright!

Remember, you are wonderful just the way you are!
Always respect and believe in yourself!

Conclude by reiterating the main message. Encourage students to keep shining brightly.
