Be a Cyber Hero Lesson Plan

Students will define cyberbullying, recognize its emotional impact, and practice strategies to prevent and respond to online bullying by creating their own ‘Cyber Hero’ pledge.

Cyberbullying can harm students’ well-being and school climate. Teaching awareness, empathy, and response strategies empowers all students to create a safer, more respectful online community.

Giver & Cyber Hero Integration

Students will connect themes of information control and emotional suppression in The Giver (chapters 8–12) to real-world cyberbullying, analyzing scenarios and creating empathetic community rules and a ‘Cyber Hero’ pledge from Jonas’s perspective.

Linking The Giver’s themes of control, community rules, and emotional awareness to digital ‘netiquette’ deepens understanding of power, empathy, and responsibility in literature and online life.
