Introduction & Warm-Up (5 minutes)
(Display Slide 1: "Welcome to Spooky Showdown!")
"Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Happy [Day of the Week]! Today, we're going to take a little break from our usual routine to celebrate the spooky season with some fun and festive Halloween games. We're going to call this our 'Spooky Showdown!'"
"To get us in the spirit, let's start with a quick trivia question you see on the screen: 'What is the traditional Halloween color pairing that represents death and the autumn harvest?' Take a moment to think about it."
(Pause for student responses)
"Great guesses! The answer is typically black and orange. Black often represents death or darkness, and orange symbolizes the autumn harvest. Does anyone have any fun facts about Halloween they'd like to share?"
(Allow 1-2 students to share briefly)
Game 1: Mummy Wrap Race (10 minutes)
(Display Slide 2: "Game 1: Mummy Wrap Race!")
"Alright, let's dive into our first game: the 'Mummy Wrap Race!' The objective here is simple: work with your team to transform one of your teammates into a mummy using toilet paper!"
"First, I need you to get into teams of about 3 or 4 students. Once you're in your teams, choose one person to be your 'mummy.' This person will stand still while the rest of the team does the wrapping."
(Allow students to form teams and choose a mummy)
"Excellent! Now, each team will receive one roll of toilet paper. Your goal is to wrap your mummy from head to toe. Make sure their face is still visible – we want to recognize our mummies! The first team to completely wrap their mummy wins this round."
"You can find the full rules and how we'll score this game on your Game Rules & Scorecard. I'll be walking around to make sure everyone understands and to keep track of time. On your mark, get set, GO!"
(Monitor teams, encourage, and provide a 1-minute warning. After the game, help collect toilet paper and check the scorecard.)
"Fantastic mummies, everyone! Let's get those scores recorded on our Game Rules & Scorecard."
Game 2: Witch's Brew Mystery (10 minutes)
(Display Slide 3: "Game 2: Witch's Brew Mystery")
"Time for our second challenge: 'Witch's Brew Mystery!' For this game, one person from your team will be blindfolded. Their teammates will give them verbal clues to help them identify various mystery objects without naming the object itself."
"Choose a new person on your team to be the blindfolded identifier this time. I will provide each team with a few everyday classroom objects. When it's your turn, the blindfolded student will feel an object, and their teammates will describe it. For example, if it's a pencil, you might say, 'It's long, thin, has a point, and is used for writing.' Remember, no naming the object directly!"
"You'll have 2 minutes per team to identify as many objects as you can. Every correct guess earns your team a point. Again, all the rules and scoring are on your Game Rules & Scorecard. Any questions?"
(Distribute blindfolds and objects. Facilitate the game, keeping track of time and scores.)
"Amazing detective work, teams! Let's get those scores tallied for the Witch's Brew Mystery on your Game Rules & Scorecard."
Wrap-Up & Reflection (5 minutes)
(Display Slide 4: "Spooky Showdown: Wrap Up!")
"Alright, everyone, bring it back in! What a fun Spooky Showdown we've had! Before we announce our champions, I'd love to hear from a few of you. What was your favorite part of our Spooky Showdown today and why?"
(Allow 2-3 students to share their reflections.)
"Wonderful! It sounds like you all had a great time working together. Now for the moment of truth! Let's quickly add up our scores from the Game Rules & Scorecard."
(Quickly tally scores, or have team captains report their totals.)
"And the winning team for our Spooky Showdown is... Team [Team Name]! Give them a round of applause! And let's give a huge round of applause to all the teams for their fantastic participation and teamwork today! You all did a great job."
"Thanks for a fun and spooky lesson, everyone!"
