Treating Mental Health like Dental Health

This video draws a comparison between mental health and dental health, emphasizing the importance of daily routines and regular check-ups for both. It encourages viewers to incorporate practices for brain health into their daily routines and to seek help when experiencing mental distress.

Let's compare mental health to dental health. Teeth are an essential part of the body. Without functioning teeth, we'd be unable to digest our food. Similarly, without a functioning brain, we'd be unable to think, act, feel, sense, respond, or process any sort of information. There are a lot of existing practices focused on maintaining healthy teeth, but what about practices for a healthy brain? Brushing one's teeth twice a day has become a widely accepted daily routine. Many people also floss, rinse with mouthwash, and visit the dentist for routine checkups and cleanings. Practices dedicated to brain health, such as meditation and therapy, are adopted into some people's routines, but they are not nearly as normalized and widely accepted. Take a moment to think about what practices you can incorporate into your daily routine to help keep your brain healthy. If you do experience abnormal amounts of mental distress, seek help from a doctor, a friend, or community support. It's okay to not feel okay, and there's no need to suffer in silence. Mental health, just like dental health, is very important and should be prioritized in the same way.
